Andy Bloch
Andy Bloch must spend a lot of time going to school reunions, because he has two degrees from MIT and a juris doctorate from Harvard- but he has made almost four million dollars by playing poker.
Bloch played cards from the time he was young, but he didn't start taking the game of poker seriously until he got his degree from MIT. During his school career, he was a member of the Amphibians, MIT's blackjack club, and he made up to $100,000 in a single session. As he got better at the game, he used cards to earn money when he was in between jobs and to pay for his schooling. Poker began to take precedence over his law school work, and he missed classes to play in the World Series of Poker. After he passed the bar exam, he put his law career on hold to play poker full-time.
Andy Bloch has been very successful in professional poker, including a second-place finish in the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E tournament of 2006 and 2008's pot limit hold 'em championship. Outside of poker, he is still a great blackjack player. He's a member of Team Full Tilt, and he donates all of his Full Tilt winnings to charity.
Andy Bloch is something of a Renaissance man- he's an electrical engineer, a poet, a lawyer and an outstanding poker player. He is thought to be looking for a law job, but based on his success at the poker table, it's unlikely that he will be changing careers any time soon.
