Tom Dwan
All the great poker players have a nickname, but none are as amusing as "Durrrr", which is the nickname of Tom Dwan, one of the youngest players in the game. He was seventeen when he started playing poker online, beginning with a fifty-dollar bankroll and playing small-stakes cash games and sit-n-gos. He's turned that funny nickname into a tool to inspire respect in his opponents.
By the time he turned eighteen, Tom Dwan had become a fixture in the $200-$400 games on Full Tilt Poker, playing against stars like Phil Ivey, David Benyamine and Patrik Antonius. One of his big claims to fame was winning $200,000 in a single one-hour session on Full Tilt.
At nineteen, he was able to skirt the United States' ban on underage poker tournament play by entering the EPT (in Europe, the age limit to play poker is eighteen). He finished twelfth there, winning about $12,000.
Tom Dwan turned 21 on July 30, 2007, and shortly thereafter, he finished fourth in the WPT championship for almost $325,000. He followed that win with two second-places in the PL Omaha Aussie Millions and the 2008 WPT Limit Hold 'em event at the Borgata. He also has two top-10s in WSOP play.
